Cullowhee, N.C. – Rain showers that have peppered western North Carolina for two days and forecasts for precipitation expected to continue into the evening hours have prompted officials at Western Carolina to cancel Saturday's scheduled game three of the Southern Conference baseball series with VMI. The conference game will not be made up.
VMI claimed both ends of Thursday's weather-altered doubleheader to win the Southern Conference series, outlasting WCU 14-11 in 10 innings in game one before rallying over the final third of the nightcap to win 17-12. The two teams combined for 54 total runs on 64 hits including 27 for extra bases – 14 doubles and 13 home runs – on Thursday. VMI had 36 hits with five doubles and nine homers while the Catamounts legged out nine doubles with four homers.
Western Carolina (12-18, 3-5 SoCon) returns to action in the midweek by visiting mountain-rival UNC Asheville at Greenwood Field on Tuesday, April 11, with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. on ESPN+ (
