WCU is 2-0-1 following a 5-1 victory at Winthrop on Wednesday evening. Sophomore
Isabella DeMarco compiled the sixth hat trick in team history and second of her career in the victory while junior
Naya Marcil scored two goals in the win. The season-high five goals for WCU were the most for the Catamounts since a six-goal explosion last October in a 6-1 victory at The Citadel where DeMarco also posted a hat trick.
UT Martin is 1-1 following a 2-0 home loss against Appalachian State on Thursday night. The Mountaineers scored a pair of early second-half goals that ended up being the difference in the contest. Skyhawk defender Catey Hunt earned Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Defensive Player of the Week honors stemming from UTM's season-opening win at in-state foe Austin Peay.
Under first-year head coach Mike Varga, who has over 300 career collegiate victories, UTM was picked eighth in the 10-team OVC. The Skyhawks finished 4-9-5 with a 1-5-2 conference mark a season ago.
Sunday's match is the seventh all-time meeting with WCU holding a 4-1-1 advantage. The teams battled to a scoreless draw last season in Cullowhee in a match marred by a lengthy lightning delay.
The Catamounts return home on Thursday, Aug. 31 to face Georgia State on Hawaiian Night at the Catamount Athletics Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
