Cotton Added to Women's Basketball Staff

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina head women's basketball coach Kiley Hill completed his staff for the upcoming 2023-24 season with the addition of Matt Cotton as the program's Director of Personnel and Women's Basketball Operations.

"I am very thankful to Coach Hill for the opportunity to be a part of the program and look forward to returning to North Carolina to join him and the staff as we work together to take the program to new heights," commented Cotton.

"From my first visit to campus, I instantly connected with everyone and cannot wait to get started and add value through the video skills I have developed during my time with the Maryland and Florida basketball programs."

Cotton joins the Catamount women's basketball staff after spending the past year as the assistant video coordinator with the University of Maryland. During his tenure in College Park he spent time assisting in video work for live scouts and breakdown of opponents along with weekly scouting reports.

He's also spent time in the last year working with USA Basketball assisting in filming of opponent games and various other tasks.

Prior to his time with USA Basketball and Maryland, Cotton spent time with the University of Florida as a scouting and video assistant with the Gators. During his tenure in Gainesville, he spent time assisting in video work for live scouts and breakdown of opponents along with weekly scouting reports.

Before his time with Florida and Maryland, he spent time working with both the ACC and Wake Forest.

Cotton got his degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Business Analytics while minoring in sport and event management from Elon. He also earned his masters degree in Sports Management from the University of Florida.

"We are excited to welcome Matt to our Catamount Family," said Hill.  "We altered the needs of this position, and Matt, with his experience in video analysis, organizational skills, and incredible work ethic, fit the target areas we were wanting.  His impact can and will be immediate in areas that will help our program take another step forward."
