CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Following a victory in its Southern Conference opener against Samford on Thursday night, the Western Carolina women's soccer team looks to continue their winning ways at home on Sunday as the Catamounts welcome chromatic rival Furman to the Catamount Athletics Complex for a 1 p.m. contest.

The Catamounts (4-2-3) snapped a seven-match losing skid to Samford with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the Bulldogs on Thursday night in Alabama. The win was the first for WCU in Birmingham in 10 attempts.
Abbie Lainhart scored her first goal of the season with an assist from
Isabella DeMarco in the 26
th minute of the first half and
Leanne Trudel earned her fourth shutout of the season as the Catamount defense stood tall in the second half to preserve the win.
Furman is 4-4-2 overall after battling ETSU to a scoreless draw in Greenville, S.C. on Thursday. Goalkeeper Addison Corn picked up her third shutout of the year with two saves and the Paladins narrowly missed scoring a goal in a frantic second half. The Paladins were picked sixth in the preseason SoCon coaches poll, just behind WCU in fifth.
The teams have met 31 previous times with the Paladins having won the last two matchups.
WCU continues a four-match homestand on Thursday, welcoming in-state foe UNCG to Cullowhee for a 6 p.m. contest.
