Women’s Soccer Falls at No. 11 Clemson on Sunday

CLEMSON, S.C. – Sophomore goalkeeper Leanne Trudel recorded a career-high nine saves, but 11th-ranked Clemson took advantage of goals in the early stages of both halves en route to a 5-0 win over Western Carolina on Sunday evening at Historic Riggs Field.
 
Clemson improves to 5-0-1 while the Catamounts are now an even 2-2-2.
 
Makenna Morris opened the scoring with a goal at the 6:19 mark and the Tigers added a goal with 1:31 in the first half for a 2-0 lead at halftime.
 
The Tigers tallied three goals in the second half in the 46th, 73rd, and 76th minutes with Morris tallying two goals and Jenna Tobia credited with three assists in the match.
 
Trudel was credited with nine saves on the night with five coming in the first half and four coming in the second. Alexis DeMarco, Isabella DeMarco, Maddie Lopez, and Emma Soucy each attempted a shot in the matchup against the nationally-ranked opponent.
 
The Catamounts return home on Thursday, opening a two-match homestand against former Southern Conference archrival Appalachian State at 7 p.m. before a contest against directional in-state rival East Carolina on Sunday at 1 p.m. Thursdays match is a part of "White Out Week" that includes Tuesday night's volleyball home opener against UNC Asheville (6 p.m.) and culminates with the home-opening "White Out Whitmire" football game against defending SoCon champion Samford on Saturday, Sept. 9. Fans are encouraged to wear their white WCU gear to each home event this week.
