Chapel Hill, N.C. -- Western Carolina women's tennis run at the ITA Division I Regional Championships ended Saturday morning as the pairing of Jade Groen and Madison Schwarz fell in their match in the round of 16. The first Catamount doubles pairing to advance to that point at the regional tournament, Schwarz and Groen were defeated by North Carolina's Carson Tanguiling and Susanna Maltby in an 8-2 decision.  
 
"The team competed very well this week. We played some of the top competition in the country and held up nicely against them," said WCU head coach Bret Beaver. "We can learn what it takes to compete at that level and continue to work to get there. I'm excited to put what we learned into practice over the next couple of weeks and it will set us up nicely for the spring/"  
 
As a team, the Catamounts went 7-10 at the regional tournament. Isabella Sambola and Madison Schwarz earned first-round wins in the qualifying round, while Dasha Osadova and Andrea Redondo picked up consolation round victories. An automatic main draw qualifier, Jade Groen took a first-round victory in straight sets, but fell in the round of 32.  
 
Schwarz and Groen were the most successful doubles pairing for the Purple and Gold and were the first duo to advance to the round of 16 in program history. They earned wins over Wake Forest's Sankavi Gownder and Brianna Baldi as well as UNC Greensboro's Alexandra Dodashev Enbert and Olivia Gallagher.
