  • Mark WCU's first victory in Southern Conference play, giving the Catamounts a win in its SoCon opener for a second-straight season, both coming at home (W, 30-7 vs. Samford) – but it was just WCU's second league-opening victory since 2019;
  • Extended WCU's current series win streak over Wofford to four-straight games, marking WCU's longest string of consecutive victories since winning eight straight from 1977 through 1996;
  • Evened the all-time series between Wofford and Western Carolina in games played in Cullowhee at 12-12 overall.
 Post-Game Notes:
  • Western Carolina's offense posted its second-straight 470+ yard performance, finishing with 475 yards on a season-high 78 plays in the win over Wofford … In posting one of its most balanced offensive games of the season, WCU rushed for a season-best 218 yards while passing for 257 yards in the winning effort;
  • WCU QB Cole Gonzales finished an efficient 29-of-39 passing in the win over Wofford, his best performance of the season … Completing 74% of his passes against the Terriers, Gonzales posted his seventh career game of 70% or better passing … His 29 pass completions were a season-high;
  • After tossing a touchdown pass in nine of the 11 games a season ago – including nine consecutive against NCAA FCS competition – Catamount QB Cole Gonzales has only recorded TD tosses in two of the five games this season … Gonzales has a pair of two TD passing games this season at NC State and at Montana … In two home games this year, Gonzales has yet to toss a TD pass … He continues to rank tied for third in program history with 43 career passing scores – 21 shy of the school record;
  • Gonzales moved into SIXTH place in WCU's career record books with 5,373 career passing yards, by-passing both Brian Gaither (5,159 yards from 2000-03) and Don Dalton (5,289 yards from 1967-69);
  • Gonzales moved into FOURTH place on WCU's career total offense chart now with a total of 5,890 yards, eclipsing fourth-place Mike Pusey (5,863 yards from 1977-79) and sets his sights on third-place Lonnie Galloway (6,832 yards from 1990-93);
  • Making his seasonal debut – and playing in a game for the first time since the 2022 season after being sidelined by injury – senior RB Jalynn Williams matched his career-high with two touchdown runs in the win over Wofford … His previous career-high of two also came against Wofford back in the 2022 season;

  • Curtis Fann Jr. forced his fourth fumble career, his first of this season;
  • Sophomore P Stephen Brantley boomed a season-long 57-yard punt against Wofford, eclipsing the 56-yard kick at Wofford … the 57-yard punt was two yards shy of his career-long 59-yard punt against Charleston Southern in 2022;
  • K Paxton Robertson kicked a pair of field goals against Wofford marking the first time in his WCU career that he scored multiple field goals.
 Miscellaneous Notes:
  • Western Carolina saw DB #3 Samaurie Dukes carry out the United States flag and OL #74 Jordan Daniels carried the North Carolina state flag during the team's pregame runout … It was the first time WCU carried the North Carolina flag, doing so as a sign of solidarity for the victims of Hurricane Helene
