William B. Greene Jr. Stadium
Johnson City, Tenn. | Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024
Att: 12,109

With the Loss:
  • Halted Western Carolina's two-game series win streak against ETSU, relegating the Catamounts back to .500 overall on the season (5-5) with a second loss in SoCon play (4-2);
  • Dating back to last season, the Catamounts have now dropped their last FIVE games as a nationally-ranked NCAA FCS ranked team … WCU fell at VMI to conclude 2023 … In 2024, the Catamounts have losses as a ranked team at NC State and against Campbell followed by defeats on the road at No. 10/9 Montana and at ETSU;
  • WCU now leads the all-time series with the Buccaneers 27-26-21 with a 12-15-1 mark in series games played in Johnson City in the 54th all-time series meeting;
Post-Game Notes:
  • ETSU reclaimed possession of "the Rock," the traveling trophy that goes to the winner of the Blue Ridge Border Battle, snapping WCU's two-game series win streak in the series;
  • Western Carolina rallied back from a pair of 10-point deficits in the loss at ETSU, coming back from an opening 10-0 hole and a 17-7 deficit in the third quarter … Taron Dickens guided the Catamounts to the first lead of the day at 21-17 late in the third quarter;
  • WCU fumbled on its first possessions of both the first and second halves against ETSU … the Catamounts lost a fumble on a sack on its very first play from scrimmage in the first quarter … Then in the third quarter, WCU lost a fumble on its second offensive play of the second half;
  • WCU surrendered a season-high eight sacks in the road loss at ETSU as part of 10 Buccaneer tackles for loss… the previous opponent sacks high was four coming twice – at Furman and at Mercer;
  • Redshirt freshman QB Taron Dickens posted the first rushing touchdowns of his collegiate career, twice scoring on the ground in the road loss … Dickens posted scoring runs of two and eight yards;
  • TE Jake Young scored his second career touchdown for the Catamounts – and his first since the season-opener at NC State back on Aug. 29;
  • DB Jordy Lowery was credited with a career-high 10 tackles, his first career double-digit tackle performance;
  • WCU's defense limited ETSU to an opponent-low 154 passing yards on 11 completions, the second-lowest number by an opponent this season (Mercer completed just 10 passes);
  • The Catamount defense was held without a quarterback sack for the first time this season … the Catamounts had at least one sack in each of the previous nine games;
  • Sophomore punter Stephen Brantley uncorked a career-long 65-yard punt at ETSU;
Miscellaneous Notes:
  • Saturday's attendance of 12,109 represented the largest attendance in the history of ETSU's Bank of Tennessee Field at William B. Greene Jr. Stadium
