Spartanburg, S.C. –
Zach Ketterman homered twice to score both of Western Carolina's runs and collect two of the team's six base hits, but the Catamounts were unable to slow the nation's top-scoring offense as Wofford claimed Friday's Southern Conference series opener 13-2 in seven innings at Russell C. King Field.
Game two of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Coverage of the game is available through live stats online at CatamountSports.com. Sunday's series finale is set for 1 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+ (

Ketterman (2-for-3) and
Jack Spyke (2-for-2) both tallied multi-hit games with Ketterman reaching double-digit home runs on the season with his pair of solo shots and Spyke singling in the infield twice. Spyke reached a third time in the loss by drawing a walk.
Nate Stocum (1-for-3) and
Mason Holton (1-for-3) added singles for the Catamounts.
Marshall Toole drove in six of Wofford's 13 runs in a 3-for-4 effort with a solo home run and a triple to lead the way for the Terriers. Brice Martinez (2-for-4) doubled, and Tyler Hare (2-for-2) reached three times with a walk and two runs scored for the Terriers.
WCU (21-18, 6-7 SoCon) jumped in front in the top of the first inning on the first of Ketterman's two home runs. However, a pair of solo homers in the home half by the Terriers handed the home squad a lead it would never relinquish.
Wofford (28-11, 8-4 SoCon) added two in the second, a solo marker in the third, three in the fourth, and a five-run fifth inning to stake itself to a 13-1 lead through five complete. Ketterman homered in the sixth inning to ultimately provide the final tally.
Catamount starter
Gavin Mortenson (2-4) was saddled with the loss, surrendering eight runs on nine hits over three innings with four strikeouts. Four relievers combined to toss the remaining three innings with
Carson Lowder recording a strikeout in an inning of work.
Shane Huntsberger inherited a bases-loaded jam but was able to retire the two batters he faced in keeping Wofford off the scoreboard in the sixth inning.
Wofford starter Zac Cowen (6-1) struck out seven while scattering six hits with the two home runs allowed to Ketterman over his seven-inning victory.
