Cullowhee, N.C. -- Despite taking victories on three of the six singles courts on Friday afternoon, the Western Carolina women's tennis team fell at home to the Wofford Terriers 4-3 in Southern Conference action in the final home match of the regular season.  

The Catamounts led on all three doubles courts at one point, though reigning SoCon Women's Tennis Player of the Month Jade Groen and Madison Schwarz would be the only two to earn a final decision in their favor. Groen and Schwarz blitzed to a quick 6-1 doubles match up on the second court as the duos of Isabella Sambola and Angela Perez as well as Andrea Redondo and Dasha Osadova fell in close 6-4 sets.  

With Wofford claiming an early 1-0 lead in the match, the Catamounts fought back in singles as Dasha Osadova evened the match at 1-all. Osadova recorded her first straight-set victory on the sixth court since the Catamounts' victory at Gardner-Webb. The sophomore from London crusied to a pair of 6-2 and 6-1 set wins. In addition, Madison Schwarz picked up hard-fought singles win in straight sets against Wofford's Emely Kahrs at No. 4. The win was Schwarz' first since the Catamount win at Queens. 

 A flurry of finishes followed as results from courts three, four, and five all went final, giving the Terriers a 3-2 lead as Isabella Sambola and Jade Groen continued to battle on their respective courts, one and two.  Sambola fought through two sets but ultimately fell to Wofford's Breda Brennan in straight sets as the Terriers claimed their final point of the day. Jade Groen was in relatively unfamiliar territory on the second court as the standout Catamount fell in the first set to Wofford's Brianna Wilbur 6-3. Undeterred, Groen proceeded to rattle off two dominant set victories with scores of 6-4 and 6-3 to close out the match, giving the Catamounts their third point of the day.  

WCU has a quick turnaround as they prepare to close out the 2023-24 regular season on the road with the Chattanooga Mocs. The regular season finale is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. in Chattanooga.
