CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina head volleyball coach Karen Glover finalized her 2024 roster with the addition of junior transfer middle blocker Samantha Jo Mikosky (Temple) and freshman middle blocker Meleah Foster (Brevard, N.C.) as both joined the Catamounts for the upcoming fall season.
Mikosky and Foster join a quartet of student-athletes in libero Halley Tang (Plantation, Fla.), middle blocker Courtney Graham (Cumming, Ga.), outside hitter/right side Avri Solik-Fifarek (Milwaukee, Wis.), and outside hitter/right side Peri Subat (Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) who each signed on to join the Catamounts in November.
Samantha Jo Mikosky – 6-3 – MB – Temple / Allentown Central Catholic / Bethlehem, Pa.
Mikosky comes to Cullowhee after spending the past two seasons at Temple in the American Athletic Conference (AAC). The Bethlehem, Pa. native appeared in 57 matches totaling 198 sets over her two years in Philadelphia. She was a mainstay on the block for the Owls with 181 blocks in her career. During her debut season, she led the team and was ranked fifth overall in the AAC with 110 total blocks. In her two seasons at Temple, she tallied five or more blocks in 14 matches including a career-high with 11 against Colgate, which ranked as the third-best mark in Temple's program history.
On the offensive side, Mikosky posted a season-high seven kills against Charlotte during the 2023 season and had 14 matches with five or more kills with a career-high eight against both Delaware and Penn in her freshman season. In September, she garnered AAC Weekly Honor Roll honors after averaging 1.21 blocks per game in a four-match stretch.
Meleah Foster – 6-1 – MB – Brevard HS / Brevard, N.C.
Foster joins the Catamount family after being a multi-sport standout at Brevard High. She tallied over 700 kills and hit .363 during her high school career, which included totaling over 400 kills, 139 blocks, 89 digs, and 341 aces for a stat-stuffing senior season. Foster saw her prep career close with a total of 743 aces, 333 blocks, and 189 digs. She also saw time on the soccer field with 12 goals and 21 assists in two seasons on the pitch.
During the 2023 state championship, Foster was named the tournament's MVP as she helped lead the Blue Devils to the first state championship in program history. She garnered All-MF7 honors and was named the Mountain Foothills 1A/2A conference player of the year. She closed out the volleyball honors by racking up all-state honors from HighSchoolOT.com. On the soccer side, Foster was named to the MF7 Girls Soccer All-Conference team.
