Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina women's tennis team concluded its first home fall tournament this weekend with the WCU Fall Invitational, hosting Bellarmine, Emory, and Gardner-Webb on the home courts at the Catamount Athletic Complex.  

Saturday saw the Catamounts go 3-5 in two doubles matches against Bellarmine and Emory and a singles match with Gardner-Webb. Jade Groen posted an undefeated record on the doubles courts, going 2-0 while paired with Madison Schwarz against Bellarmine for the 7-6 (7-4) win before joining Andrea Redondo for another 7-6 (7-4) victory against Emory.

Schwarz earned the one singles win on the day for the Catamounts, battling to a 4-6, 7-6 (3), 10-5 win over Gardner-Webb.  

The Purple and Gold fared better on Sunday, finishing 4-4 in two singles matches against Emory, a pair of doubles matches versus Gardner-Webb, and four singles matches with Bellarmine. The pairings of Madison Schwarz and Andrea Redondo as well as Jade Groen and Dasha Osadova overpowered the Runnin' Bulldog duos, sweeping the doubles courts with scores of 6-1 and 6-3, respectively. Groen took the sole Catamount singles win over Bellarmine with a 6-1, 6-2 straight-set victory, though Schwarz forced a tiebreak with a 6-4 set two victory but fell 10-7.

Only two Catamounts took the singles courts versus Emory, with Jade Groen taking another win in exciting 6-4, 0-6, 10-8 fashion. Andrea Redondo battled in her matchup as well before falling 3-6, 2-6.  

WCU tennis will continue their fall schedule on Oct. 4 as they take on the Wofford-hosted Big Southern Shootout in Spartanburg, S.C.
