Spartanburg, S.C. – The conference office announced on Thursday that 46 Western Carolina student-athletes were among 427 league-wide to be named to the Fall 2024 Academic All-Southern Conference Team.
Each of the SoCon's 10 full-member institutions had at least 35 honorees, representing men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer, and volleyball. The 427 total selections are the second highest and the 50 perfect GPAs are the most selections in SoCon history.
To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) after the fall semester and be required to compete in at least half of their team's competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
Across the conference, 50 student-athletes maintained a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA with Western Carolina having three student-athletes hit the mark –
Maggie Lloyd (women's soccer),
Bailey Hartsough (volleyball), and
Sara Klemm (women's cross country).
The league's 10 women's soccer teams led the way with 115 academic all-conference selections, while the nine football teams were second with 110, and the 10 women's cross-country programs were third with 62. The nine volleyball teams and ten men's cross-country teams each had 48 selections, and the six men's soccer teams followed with 44.
Western Carolina women's soccer paced Catamount Athletics for the third straight fall semester with 17 members on the 2024 Fall SoCon All-Academic list.
