Full Court Press:
The Catamounts and Sooners meet for the second consecutive season and for the first time in Cullowhee, with the Sooners earning a win in the series opener last season. Oklahoma defended its home court with a 122-56 victory over the Catamounts in Norman a year ago.
The Sooners are the first top-ten basketball team to make the trek to Cullowhee in program history, and the highest-ranked team the Catamount women's or men's team has faced in the Ramsey Center. Oklahoma is also the first Power Four team to make the trip since the Wake Forest Demon Deacons did so in the 2007-08 season.
The last Power Four school from outside the Carolinas to play in Cullowhee was Auburn, which battled for a 15-point win over the Purple and Gold back in 2005-06. WCU's last home win over a P4 opponent came in 2001 as the Catamounts posted a 72-64 win over Wake Forest.
Players to Watch:
Ally Hollifield has been a consistent offensive threat for the Catamounts early in the season as the redshirt sophomore leads the team in scoring with 53 points and the Southern Conference in points per game with 17.7. She most recently notched 17 points, with three made three-pointers in WCU's loss to Campbell.
On the glass, the Catamounts were led by
Ary Dizon and
Joyce Mulumba, who had five rebounds each. Mulumba leads the Catamounts in total rebounds with 28 and leads the Southern Conference in rebounds per game as the junior averages 9.3 per outing.
Oklahoma is led by standout freshman Aaliyah Chavez and Reagan Beers, who are first and second on the team in scoring with 73 and 63 points, respectively. Beers is entering Sunday's matchup after posting 20 points and 11 rebounds against North Alabama. The Littleton, Colo. Product went for 27 points against the Catamounts a season ago, going 12/14 in 19 minutes in Norman.
Chavez has gone for double-digit points in all four of OU's outings this season, most recently recording 17 in an 89-61 win over North Alabama. The former five star out of Lubbock, Texas, has connected on 12/30 3FG and is shooting 39.3% from the floor.
