Cullowhee, N.C. – Entering the start of Southern Conference play on Wednesday, Western Carolina head men's basketball coach Tim Craft has announced an update to his team's roster surrounding redshirt senior forward Chase McKey.
McKey sustained a season-ending injury and will apply for a medical hardship waiver. The Atlanta, Ga., product graduated from Western Carolina University in the December commencement ceremonies with a BSBA in business administration & law, and has entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer to conclude his collegiate career at another institution.
"Chase has been a model student-athlete for our men's basketball program and within our athletics department," said Craft. "We wish him the very best in his future endeavors."
McKey saw limited action in just four games this season due to injury after playing in 28 games a season ago with four starts. He scored 121 points with a pair of double-digit scoring efforts, adding 113 rebounds over the past two years for the Catamounts after transferring to Cullowhee from Marshall.
Western Carolina (4-7) opens its 2025-26 Southern Conference slate on Wednesday (Dec. 31), hosting the Wofford Terriers at 1 p.m. on Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center. Wednesday's game can be seen on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with live streaming audio from the Catamount Sports Network available online at CatamountSports.com, and through CSN affiliates 105.7 FM WRGC, The River in Sylva, and BIGFOOT Country, 103.9 FM WBRM in Marion, N.C., and the I-40 corridor.
