Davidson, N.C. – Earning the doubles point and recording all four singles victories in straight sets, Western Carolina women's tennis claimed its first road win of the spring with a 5-1 decision over Davidson on Saturday afternoon on the Davidson College Tennis Courts.
The Catamounts earned their third consecutive win over the Wildcats, a former league foe, coming in as many seasons. WCU (2-2) is on a two-match win streak while the Wildcats fall to 0-1 after their season opener. The 5-1 win over Davidson is the largest road win in the series for the Catamounts since a straight-sets, 7-0 victory back in 1995.
Juniors Madison Schwarz and Jade Groen paired to earn the first win of the day for the Catamounts, taking their doubles match on the top court, 6-2. They were closely followed in finishing order by Isabella Sambola and Angela Perez, who also earned a 6-2 win on the third court. Senior Andrea Redondo and junior Chloe Schwarz were nearing a victory on court two as well, holding a 5-4 lead before play was left unfinished once the Catamounts clinched the doubles point.
On the singles courts, WCU rattled off four straight set victories with the closest sets being a trio of 6-3 decisions in the decisions for Groen, Chloe and Schwarz.
