Elizabeth Lohbauer climbed seven spots in the final standings after shooting her tournament-best round of 4-over par 76 on Saturday, as Western Carolina women's golf came home 14th among a competitive field at the City of Oaks Collegiate at the par-72, 6,143-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Club.
WCU (963) slipped one spot in the final standings, finishing sixth strokes back of 13th-place Elon (957), who fell three positions in the final round. The Catamounts were 10 strokes ahead of 15th-place Appalachian State (973).
Lohbauer carded three total birdies on the back nine to complete her round, rallying back from 6-over par with a pair of birdies among her final four holes to shoot 4-over 76 for a three-round total of 232. The Venice, Fla., product posted five birdies over the 54-hole event.
Freshman
Ella Kozak was WCU's biggest mover in the final round, advancing nine spots into a tie for 48th in the final finishing order with a score of 240. Opening on the back nine, Kozak began with a birdie and carried a 1-under par score through her first six holes. She had three birdies in the three-day event.
Junior
Sadler Miller came home in a tie for 42nd overall as WCU's second-best finisher, sliding nine spots over the final 18 holes. She carded her fourth birdie of the tournament on the par-4, 341-yard 16th on Saturday.
Rounding out WCU's scoring five were freshman
Annalee Caveney in a tie for 87th with a score of 255, while transfer
Abby Bradley moved up one spot into 93rd overall with a total of 264.
East Carolina cruised to the team championship by 17 strokes over runner-up No. 48 Campbell, 886-to-903. Event host No. 41 NC State climbed into third place with a three-round score of 911 and were 10 strokes clear of fourth-place Charlotte (921). Rutgers slid two spots into fifth to round out the top five with a final total of 925.
Danielle Modder of ECU claimed the individual medalist honors after finishing tied with Charlotte's Pimchompoo Chaisilprungruang – ranked 56th in the country – with matching scores of 2-over par 218. Second-round leader Mira Berglund of Campbell slid to third, just a stroke in arrears at 219 after a final-round score of 4-over par 76.
The Catamount women's golf team returns to action in its penultimate event of the regular season, traveling to Morganton, N.C., for the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate on March 31 and April 1, for a 54-hole event contested over two days.
