Lohbauer Climbs Into the Top 10; WCU 7th Entering Final Round

Elizabeth Lohbauer and Sadler Miller are among the top 10 through 36 holes

Humacao, Puerto Rico – Western Carolina senior Elizabeth Lohbauer, along with freshman Ella Kozak, both posted second round scores of 1-over par 73 to lead the Catamounts in the second round of the Puerto Rico Shootout, hosted by Ball State at the par-72, 6,026-yard Flamboyan Course at the Palmas Del Mar Golf Club.
 
Lohbauer moved into sole possession of ninth place after 36 holes as the Catamounts maintained their seventh place standing with one round to play on the Caribbean course.
 
The final round opens at 7:30 a.m. AST / 8:30 a.m. EST with the Catamount scoring five paired with golfers from Central Arkansas and James Madison. Live scoring through the Scoreboard Live app powered by Clippd is available online through a link at CatamountSports.com.
 
Opening on the par-3 15th hole, Lohbauer rattled off six straight pars before three bogies on her next six holes were answered with birdies on the ninth, 10th, and 13th holes before a bogey on her final hole led to a one-over 73. She currently sits in ninth place with a one-over score of 145.
 
Kozak opened with seven pars and a bogey in the early going on Wednesday before grabbing a birdie on the par-4 sixth hole to level out her scorecard. The Saskatchewan product closed her round with eight pars and a bogey down the stretch to match Lohbauer with a 73. Kozak climbed 16 positions on Wednesday to a tie for 34th at six-over with a score of 150.
 
True freshman Madison Lehr had the best improvement by WCU by seven shots that began on her first hole of the day with a birdie on the par-5 16th hole. After a pair of bogies, Lehr bounced back with a birdie on the par-3 fourth hole. After two bogies in three holes, Lehr tallied nine pars down the stretch to finish at a two-over 74. Lehr joined Kozak, moving up 16 positions to a tie for 58th at 11-over with a score of 155.
 
Rounding out the Catamounts scoring five are junior Sadler Miller in a tie for 10th with a five-over par 77 and mid-year transfer Abby Bradley in a tie for 72nd in her first event with WCU with a second-round 81. Miller tallied two more birdies in her second round to put her in a tie for fourth, with just one birdie off the tournament lead after two rounds.
 
Playing unattached as individuals, freshman Annalee Caveney finished with an 84 on Wednesday, while senior Kaitlyn Wingnean is 81st after shooting an 86.
 
WCU is tied for fourth with conference foe UNCG, tallying 23 birdies, led by Miller, who's recorded seven birdies.
 
Fellow SoCon school UNCG holds a five-shot lead after 36 holes after posting a +3 on Wednesday to clear James Madison by five. Southern Miss, the co-leader after 18 holes, is tied for third with Boston College as FGCU is two strokes in arrears to claim fifth place.
Memphis is in sixth place, three shots ahead of the Catamounts, while WCU is six strokes outside the top five.
 
Hannah Rabb of James Madison maintains her lead of the 82-golfer field by a stroke over UNCG's Lulu Leetham and Anna Dawson of Little Rock.
 
Action concludes on Thursday with the final round with both a team champion and individual medalist to be recognized.
