Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis earned its seventh straight victory on Tuesday afternoon with a 5-2 win over the Chattanooga Mocs in a rescheduled match at the Catamount Athletics Complex. The Catamounts (13-7, 3-1 SoCon) clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 court two victory by the pair of Isabella Sambola and Andrea Redondo before winning in straight sets on courts one, two, and five to secure the win.
The doubles team of Jade Groen and Chloe Schwarz again opened the day with a victory on the top court, taking a 6-3 decision over UTC's Rozalie Dohnalova and Alice Hall. The win is the pairing's eighth of the season, 4-0 in Southern Conference play. Sambola and Redondo secured the 1-0 advantage with a 6-4 victory on the second court, snapping a two-match skid for the duo.
Groen rolled in her singles match, picking up her 10th straight singles victory and her sixth consecutive straight-set win with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Madlena Orlova on the top court. The junior has posted a shutout set in three of her last four outings and is 4-0 in conference play.
Angela Perez continued her hot streak with a 6-3, 6-0 win on the fifth court as the senior picked up her eighth win in her last nine matches. Perez is now one win away from tying her career-high mark of 13 in singles competition which she set with a 13-4 record during 2023.
Second-seed Isabella Sambola continued her success as well, clinching the win for the Catamounts with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Chattanooga's Savannah Presson. After falling behind 3-1 at the start of singles play, the New Orleans, La. product has battled back to a .500 mark and is 5-1 in her last six decisions.
With the match secured, freshman Hokualohi Lui capped off the day with a 7-5, 6-4 win on the sixth court. Lui and Groen are the only Catamounts still unblemished in SoCon play, both 4-0 in their singles matches with wins over Furman, Samford, UNCG, and Chattanooga. WCU's freshman out of Lynnwood, Wash., has 10 wins on the year with four of her victories requiring either a third set or a seventh point to secure.

After closing out the recent homestretch with a perfect 4-0 record, the Catamounts are on the road for two of their last three matches in the 2025 regular season. The Catamounts head to Macon, Ga. to take on the Mercer Bears on April 5 for an 11 a.m. first serve before returning home to host ETSU on April 12 at 3 p.m. for their home finale. The match against the Bucs is slated to be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required).
The Catamounts will close out the regular season in Spartanburg, S.C., against a red-hot Wofford Terrier team before the Southern Conference tournament begins in Chattanooga on April 17.
