CULLOWHEE, N.C. – For the second time in as many weekends, weather has forced adjustments to Western Carolina softball's Southern Conference series slate.
The
Catamounts' three-game trip to the Scenic City is now slated to begin on Friday night with a 6 p.m. start from Chattanooga, Tenn. before a Saturday twin bill with first pitch at 1 p.m. start with game two tentatively set for 3 p.m to beat impending inclement weather on Sunday. All three games from Chattanooga are slated to be broadcast on ESPN+ (
paid subscription required), with links to live stats available online at CatamountSports.com.
WCU (18-19, 2-4 SoCon) went toe-to-toe on Tuesday with #7/6 Tennessee in Knoxville, with the nationally-ranked Lady Volunteers claiming a 4-0 victory. Senior
Tessa Juett went the distance for Western Carolina, allowing four runs – three earned – on four hits with five punchouts. She matched freshman
Amanda Fulton as the team leader in complete games with eight.
The Catamounts and Mocs renew one of the longest-standing rivalries in Western Carolina softball history as the two schools have met 59 times. UTC has claimed wins in each of the past four series meetings, including a three-game sweep a season ago in Cullowhee. WCU has a win in each of the past two series from the Scenic City, as Chattanooga has a 22-6 lead in the all-time series from the Volunteer State.
Following the weekend in Chattanooga, the Catamounts return to the friendly confines of the Catamount Softball Complex beginning on Saturday, April 12, for a three-game SoCon series against Wofford. Saturday features a doubleheader set for 1 p.m. before Sunday's series finale scheduled for 1 p.m. All three games are slated for ESPN+ (
paid subscription required), with live stats provided at CatamountSports.com.
