Shaneil Lysight Collects SoCon Track Athlete of the Week Honor

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina track and field team garnered well-deserved praise for its performance over the weekend at the home Catamount Classic as Shaneil Lysight was today named the Southern Conference's Women's Track Athlete of the Week. Lysight earned the honor after scoring three podium finishes at the 2025 Catamount Classic.

The honor is the first of Lysight's career and the second of the year for the Catamounts joining Lexi Durban, who was named SoCon's Field Athlete of the Week during the indoor season.

The Catamount junior earned personal bests in both the 100m and 400m hurdles events, taking second and third-place finishes, respectively. Her efforts now rank third and fifth in the SoCon performance rankings heading into the final weekend of the regular season and the conference championship meet on May 12-13.

Additionally, the St. Andrews, Jamaica product ran the opening leg of the women's 4x400m relay to cap the two-day home meet for the Catamounts. Lysight started the Catamounts off strong, posting a 55.99s split as the 4x400m squad took a second-place finish in the tightly contested event.

Lysight was among a strong showing for WCU not only at its home event, but also among the national rankings. Both CJ McFerrin and Ethan Long finished ranked inside the Top 100 in their respective events, the 110m hurdles and 100m dash, with four other individuals and the men's 4x400m relay team each scoring event wins.

Lysight and the Catamounts are back in action at the 2025 Southern Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama, on May 12-13.
