Catamount Football Set for Saturday’s Spring Game

Game scheduled for Noon at E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field

4/4/2025 11:00:00 PM

Cullowhee, N.C. – Western Carolina football hits the field on Saturday (April 5) at Noon for its final spring scrimmage of the team's off-season drills for its annual Spring Game as part of a busy Saturday in #CatamountCountry.

Following football's scrimmage, the Catamount baseball team plays game two of its three-game nonconference series with Gardner-Webb on the heels of winning Friday's series-opener, 9-5. The first pitch of Saturday's baseball game is scheduled for 3 p.m. Tickets for Saturday's baseball game are available in advance online at CatamountSports.com/BuyTickets.

For the third consecutive year, The Spring Game will again pit the two teams against one another as opposed to past seasons when the offense squared off against the defensive unit. The format for Saturday is designed to replicate a game day as close as possible through the first half with the team utilizing a running clock up until the final four minutes during the second half with Southern Conference officials on the field. The schedule also calls for a brief, 10-minute halftime period.

Catamount head coach Kerwin Bell oversaw Thursday's Spring Game Draft as WCU's spring roster was divided into two teams. One squad will wear the team's purple uniform with the other dressed in white. Several of WCU's football student-athletes are inactive on Saturday for a variety of reasons including injury and for precautionary purposes.

WCU will also have two honorary guest coaches on either sideline as Teddy Phillips and baseball alum turned country music star Matt Stillwell leading the way.

Of WCU's four quarterbacks, two – Taron Dickens and Bennett Judy – will wear the protected red jerseys and will be downed by tag. The other two signal-callers – Isaac Lee and Jordan Durham-Martin – will wear their respective team jersey and will be live for contact during the scrimmage.

Parking for fans attending Saturday's Catamount Football Spring Game is available in the Creek Lot and the Field House Lot, or also in the Baseball Parking Deck. Only the West Side of Whitmire Stadium – opposite the press box – will be open with game day amenities including restrooms, concessions, and Catamount merchandise from the WCU Bookstore.

WCU ticket office representatives will also be on hand with 2025 Catamount Football season ticket information. The renewal deadline for returning Catamount football season ticket holders is April 30, 2025. Everyone is encouraged to join the Catamount Club and current Catamount Club members are also reminded to renew their memberships before the end of June.

Please be aware of the addition of construction fencing around the West side of the stadium and Stadium parking lot that will limit access points as construction plans for the Western Skybox and Whitmire West projects start to ramp up this spring.
