Cullowhee, N.C. –
Trent Turner belted his team-leading 12th home run of the season as part of two extra-base hits, and
Wyatt Stanley drove in four on a trio of singles as Western Carolina handed The Citadel a 15-2 loss in a soggy seven innings Saturday afternoon in Southern Conference action at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium.
Â
Saturday's win, coupled with Friday's triumph, gives the Catamounts their third-straight league series victory. The two longtime SoCon rivals wrap up the three-game series on Sunday afternoon's Senior Day with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. WCU will honor six seniors and five graduates with a special on-field ceremony with University Chancellor Dr. Kelli R. Brown during the pregame.
Â
Six Catamounts finished with multi-hit games for a second straight day in the win. Stanley (3-for-5) singled three times in driving home a game-high four runs, while
Jack Spyke (3-for-5) drove in two on his trio of singles in his penultimate home game. Turner (2-for-4) doubled in the first inning and provided the final tally with a two-run homer in the sixth. The Waynesville native scored a game-best three runs.
Â
Cole Jones (2-for-3) reached base three times with a solo homer in the third inning for the Catamounts.
Mason Holton (2-for-4) doubled as part of his two-hit, two RBI effort, adding a walk to reach a third time, matched by
Hayden Friese (2-for-4), who singled twice with a run driven in.
Trey Spees (1-for-3) scored twice after reaching on a single and a walk.
Â
Outfielder Thomas Rollauer (2-for-3) collected half of The Citadel's four base hits with a single and a double. Phillips Daniels scored the first run for the Bulldogs after drawing a lead-off walk, as the visitors took a 1-0 lead after the top of the first inning.

Trailing after half an inning, the Catamounts put together their first of four multi-run innings in the home half with a decisive four-run frame. WCU's first three batters each reached with a walk, single, and double, sequentially, with Turner's two-bagger knotting the game at 1. Spyke pushed the Catamounts in front with a run-scoring ground out ahead of a Holton double and Stanley's first RBI single.
Â
Jones stretched the lead to 5-1 with his two-out solo homer in the third before the Bulldogs closed the gap back to three in the fourth inning. Rollauer stretched a single into a double with one out and was plated two batters later on a single up the middle by Garrett Dill.
Â
As it has for the first two games of the series, WCU had the response in the next half inning as Friese scored after drawing a one-out walk and Spyke singled and was scored by Stanley for the 7-2 advantage.
Â
A five-run fifth pushed the game out of reach as the Catamounts batted around, capitalizing on five singles, including a two-run punch through the right side, and
Elijah Smith singled home the game's 12th run.
Brayden Corn (1-for-3), who reached three times adding a walk and catcher's interference, doubled home Spees in the home portion of the sixth inning before Turner added the exclamation point with his two-run blast.
Â
WCU's offensive explosion again overshadowed another masterful pitching performance.
Davis Wright (4-6) was efficient in his start, limiting the Bulldogs to a pair of runs while scattering four hits over his six-inning start. The left-hander struck out three and walked just two to earn the victory. Freshman
Bryant Kimbrell tossed a one-hit, scoreless top of the seventh inning, inducing a game-ending double-play as the Catamounts claimed the run-ruled victory.
Â
In his first collegiate start, Maddox Webb (4-1) was handed his first defeat of the season, allowing seven runs, five earned, on six hits with a strikeout to counter three walks. Three Bulldog relievers combined to toss the final two innings, with Zane Davis and CJ Van Slooten combining for the fifth and Matthew Polk pitching in the sixth.
