Softball Doubleheader Halted Due to Weather

Halted Opener Resumes Sunday at 2 p.m.

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Western Carolina softball pulled the curtain back on the final scheduled doubleheader of the 2025 regular season on Saturday afternoon with a matchup in the Gate City against UNC Greensboro.

With one out in the top of the second inning, the game was halted due to lightning at approximately 1:40 p.m. in the Greensboro area. After the weather passed through the area, it was decided two hours later that there would be no more softball contested on Saturday afternoon from the UNCG Softball Complex.

The resumption of the series opener is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start on Sunday afternoon with game two of the weekend slated to begin approx. 30 minutes after the series opener. The finale of this series has been canceled and will not be played this weekend.

Prior to the delay, UNCG got out to an early lead on Saturday with a grand slam in the home half of the first inning. The Catamounts answered the bell in the second with back-to-back hits from senior Natalie Henry and junior Taylor Waitley. Graduate student Imara Harrell sacrificed the runners over before junior Tate Stewman dropped a flyball into center to make it 4-1.

With sophomore Lily Bell at the plate in a 1-2 count, the contest was called due to the lightning in the area. Sunday will see the game resume with Bell at the plate in a 1-2 count and be played on from that point.
