Cullowhee, N.C. -- Fans can now plan accordingly as the matchups for the 2025 Baha Mar Nassau Hoops Championship are set, with brackets announced this morning by veteran sports promoter bdG Sports.
The Western Carolina women's basketball team joins an eight-team field, which is broken down into two four-team divisions with two separate championship games. The Catamounts will take part in the Junkanoo Division, joining the Clemson Tigers, the Temple Owls, and the Michigan State Spartans in the evening bracket of the event. Additionally, Kent State, Tulsa, Houston, and Arkansas State will battle it out in the Goombay Division.
The Catamounts will take on Clemson in the first game of the Junkanoo bracket, which is scheduled for Nov. 28 at 4:00 p.m. EST. Play wraps up that night as Michigan State and Temple tip at 6:30 p.m. EST.
The Junkanoo consolation game is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. EST on Sunday, Nov. 30, with the championship scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. EST start that same day.
The Goombay Division opens play both days, with their games scheduled for 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. EST both days of the tournament.
Streaming details will be announced at a later date.
"We are excited and proud to showcase a top-tier brand of hoops in the Bahamas once again as we continue to grow and expand women's basketball and our events," college basketball analyst and event contributor Debbie Antonelli said. "I'm proud of the quality programs, coaches, and student-athletes competing in this event. I'm sure their experience will be first class and help aid in their team development as conference play nears."
Western Carolina has history with two of the three teams in the Junkanoo bracket, battling the Tigers and the Spartans in previous seasons. The Catamounts and Tigers have shared the floor ten times dating back to 1985. WCU claimed a 62-53 road win over Clemson in 2007, but trails 1-9 overall in the series.
Should the Catamounts meet the Spartans in the Bahamas, the matchup will be the second in program history and the first since a 2005 matchup in East Lansing, which Michigan State won 81-64. WCU has never squared off with the Temple Owls, who haven't faced a Southern Conference team since taking a 2004 62-42 win over ETSU.
