The Catamounts and Spartans meet for the 87th time in program history, with UNCG holding a slim lead in the overall series, 44-42. The Spartans are on a four-game winning streak in the series, including taking all three matchups last season. All three bouts were decided by seven or fewer points as the Catamounts battled tightly with the eventual SoCon champions. The last five games in the series have been decided by fewer than 10 points.
Both teams are looking to pump the brakes on a skid in the conference slate, with WCU winless in its last six and UNCG on a four-game slide, the longest active runs in the SoCon. However, UNCG is one of five teams in the SoCon to already surpass 10 wins on the season with a 12-6 record. The Spartans are 9-2 at home this season, though their two losses have come against SoCon opposition (L vs Chattanooga, 52-40; L vs ETSU, 58-48).
The Catamounts and Spartans have faced two common opponents in the non-conference slate, battling the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs and the USC Upstate Spartans. The Catamounts fell to both teams while the Spartans took a home win over Gardner-Webb (54-52) and won big on the road over USC Upstate (70-39).

In addition to leading the team in scoring, Hollifield leads the Catamounts in rebounding (6.5 rpg), assists (20), and steals (12 in conference play.
