Weather Alters Catamount Baseball Opening Series

WCU, George Washington to play Saturday doubleheader

Cullowhee, N.C. – Poor weather forecasts across the region for Sunday (Feb. 15) have prompted officials at Western Carolina to alter this weekend's 2026 season-opening, three-game Catamount baseball series against George Washington.

The two teams open the season as scheduled on Friday, Feb. 13, with a 4 p.m. first pitch at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium. Sunday's scheduled meeting has been moved to the back end of a now scheduled doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 14), with the first pitch of game one moved up to 1 p.m. Game two will start approximately 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one to conclude the three-game set.

Friday's game is slated to be broadcast on ESPN+ (paid subscription required), with broadcast plans for Saturday's twinbill still up in the air. WCU women's basketball also hosts Wofford on Saturday afternoon in Cullowhee with a 2 p.m. tip of the squad's annual "Pink Zone" game on Ingles Court at the Ramsey Center, raising awareness for breast cancer.

Tickets for either Saturday's or Sunday's game will be honored at the gates for Saturday's doubleheader. Both single-game and season tickets, as well as the 15-game Baseball and Bo's Flex Plan, remain on sale through the Catamount Athletics ticket office at (828) 227-2401 and online at CatamountSports.com/BuyTickets.

Rain is forecast to move into the area late Saturday night and persist throughout the day on Sunday, motivating today's schedule alterations to play all three scheduled games of the series.

This weekend marks the first-ever meeting between the Catamounts and the Atlantic-10 Conference member Revolutionaries on the baseball diamond. WCU is coming off a 30-28 season a year ago, while GW finished at .500 overall, 27-27.
