Tennis Heads to Chattanooga to Battle Mocs in SoCon Matchup

Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina women's tennis team is set to return to the courts for the first time in a week as the Catamounts visit the Chattanooga Mocs on Thursday, March 26. First serve is set for 2 p.m. at the UTC Tennis Center.

The Catamounts (2-13, 0-3 SoCon) enter the matchup after forfeiting their match at Samford after being unable to field four healthy players on the trip to Birmingham. Their previous action on the courts was a 6-0 loss to the Furman Paladins last week.

WCU is currently on a two-match winning streak against the Mocs, with a 4-3 win in Chattanooga in 2024 and a 5-2 victory in Cullowhee last season.

Chattanooga (13-2, 2-0 SoCon) comes into the week after picking up back-to-back wins over Wofford (7-0) and North Alabama (4-0). The Mocs previously defeated UNCG 5-2 in Greensboro to open their conference slate.

Thursday's Match:

Western Carolina (2-13, SoCon 0-3) at Chattanooga (13-2, SoCon 2-0)

March 26, 2026 | 2 p.m. | UTC Tennis Center | Chattanooga, Tenn.

Players to Watch:

The short-staffed Catamounts have shuffled around on the courts much this season, though Mariya Dobreva and Mia Miranda have maintained their respective positions as the top two seeds. The duo has also paired on the top court in doubles play, posting five doubles victories.

Chattanooga is led by Addison Iacono and Rufaro Magarira, who have posted singles records of 9-1 and 12-1, respectively. Iacono has played exclusively on the top court, while Magarira has split time between the top and second lines, with eight of her wins coming on court two.

Up Next for The Catamounts:

Following Thursday's action, WCU has a week away from competition before returning home to host the Mercer Bears and Wofford Terriers on April 2 and 3. The Catamounts then close out the 2026 regular season on April 7 with a trip to take on the UNCG Spartans before heading to Chattanooga, Tenn., for the 2026 SoCon Tournament on April 16.
