Catamount Football Spring Game Set for Saturday at Noon

WCU concludes annual spring drills with 15th practice

Cullowhee, N.C. – Catamount football is set for its annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 11, hitting the turf one final time before its scheduled replacement begins next week as part of a busy Saturday in #CatamountCountry. Kickoff of WCU's 15th off-season workout is scheduled for Noon. The free event is open to the public

Following football's scrimmage, the Catamount baseball team plays game two of its Southern Conference series with Mercer on the heels of Friday night's 10-6 victory, the 100th in the head coaching career of program alum, Alan Beck. The first pitch of Saturday's baseball game is at 3 p.m. Advanced tickets are on sale online at CatamountSports.com/BuyTickets.

WCU's Spring Game will again pit two teams against one another – Purple vs. White – as opposed to past seasons when the offense squared off against the defensive unit. The coaching staff and captains held a draft earlier in the week to divide the roster into the two squads.

2026 Catamount Football Spring Game Rosters

Saturday's format is designed to replicate a game day as close as possible through the first half, with SoCon officials on the field. The teams will utilize a running clock up until the final four minutes in the second half. The schedule also calls for a brief, 10-minute halftime period, at which time WCU football has several special recognitions.

"I want it to be a fun day," said Catamount head football coach Kerwin Bell, referencing the annual Spring Game. "What we are looking for is guys that can play at that next level, that standard that we expect them to play at during a game situation. With fans in the stands, we want to see the guys be able to play at a consistent, high level."

Bell emphasized that Saturday's Spring Game will serve as a "first look" at many of the newest Catamounts, as well as many who redshirted a season ago that the coaching staff feels can help the squad progress this upcoming season.

For Saturday's game, WCU will also have two honorary guest coaches on either sideline as Dan Brooks, a former AFCA Division I FBS Assistant Coach of the Year at Clemson who played for WCU in 1973, will help lead the team wearing the White uniforms, and Catamount football Hall of Famer and three-time All-America selection Kirk Roach will guide the Purple team.

Catamount Club and WCU ticket office representatives will be on hand with 2026 Catamount Football season ticket information. Returning season ticket holders are reminded to renew their Catamount football season tickets. Everyone is encouraged to join the Catamount Club ahead of the 2026 season, and current Catamount Club members are also reminded to renew their memberships before the end of June.
