Quick Cuts:
The Catamounts and Raiders meet for the first time in program history, with WCU wrapping up its two-game exhibition slate and Wright State playing its first and only preseason match. WCU has faced just one current member of the Horizon League, earning a 2-0 win over Youngstown State in Cullowhee in 2003.
Similarly, Wright State has scarcely faced Southern Conference competition, most recently falling 1-0 to league newcomer Tennessee Tech in 2016. The Raiders' most recent win over a current SoCon foe was a 5-0 victory over TTU in 2014. Outside of their two matches with the Golden Eagles, their most recent competition with the SoCon was a 2-1 loss to ETSU in 2011.
The Catamounts last faced a team from the state of Ohio in 2022, falling 3-0 to the Ohio Bobcats in Athens. WCU faces Miami (Ohio) in regular season competition, marking their first trip to the state since that 2022 matchup. Wright State returns to the state of North Carolina for the second year in a row, as the Raiders battled UNC Asheville in a preseason exhibition last year.
Up Next for The Catamounts:
The regular season opens on Thursday, Aug. 13, as the Catamounts host the Winthrop Eagles for a 6 p.m. tilt in Cullowhee. WCU then hosts the UNCW Seahawks on Aug. 16 at 1 p.m., with both home matches set to air on ESPN+ (paid subscription required). The Catamounts leave the Catamount Athletic Complex for the first time this season on Aug. 20, as they take on Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. at 6 p.m.
