Buies Creek, N.C. – Western Carolina football's road opener at Campbell, originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, has been postponed and rescheduled for
Sunday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m. at Barker-Lane Stadium.
All gates will open one hour before kickoff, and tickets from Saturday's game will be honored on Sunday.
Audio coverage through the Catamount Sports Network begins at 10:45 a.m. Sunday. Fans can
listen online at CatamountSports.com and on 104.9 FM an 1050 AM WFSC in Franklin (
1050wfsc.com). WISE Sports Radio 1310 AM - Asheville (
wisesportsradio.com) has also confirmed coverage. Video coverage will be available
through FloCollege (
paid subscription required) and on the FloSports Channel via Amazon Prime.
Saturday's contest was delayed shortly before kickoff because of severe weather in the area. The weather also caused an electrical issue with the stadium lighting system, preventing the game from being played.
While Sunday games are rare in program history, this is not the first time Western Carolina has played a football game on a day other than its originally scheduled Saturday date. Most recently, the Catamounts' 2018 road game at Gardner-Webb was moved to Friday because of the anticipated impacts of Hurricane Florence.
Western Carolina also played on a Sunday in 1989. Following Hurricane Hugo, damage to The Citadel's Johnson Hagood Stadium forced portions of the Bulldogs' schedule to be relocated to Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, S.C. The Catamounts and The Citadel played to a 22-22 tie on Sunday, Oct. 8, 1989, one day after South Carolina hosted East Carolina at the venue.
