Catamount Football Continues to Receive Votes

WCU plays up a weight class this weekend, traveling to FBS Cincinnati

Cullowhee, N.C. – Catamount football remained in the national conversation despite Sunday's tough road loss at Campbell. Western Carolina continued to receive votes in both the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 media poll and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Coaches poll.

Including the preseason rankings, it's the third straight week the Catamounts have received votes, falling outside of the national Top 25 after debuting at No. 24 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25 last week.

Two Southern Conference teams remained among the media's national rankings, with Tennessee Tech holding at 12th and Mercer advancing one position to 18th. Three league schools received votes into the poll, including Wofford (19), Western Carolina (15), and The Citadel (3). WCU opponent Campbell is also receiving votes in this week's poll.

In the coaches' poll, Tennessee Tech is No. 11 this week, with Mercer at No. 14 in the national voting. Wofford (53 points) is the first team outside of the top-25 ranked in the "others receiving votes" category, one of six league teams earning votes. Furman (10), Chattanooga (6), Western Carolina (5), ETSU (1), and The Citadel (1) are also listed.

Western Carolina (1-1) plays its second-straight road game this week, traveling to Cincinnati, Ohio, for a Saturday evening meeting against Big 12 foe Cincinnati (1-0). Kickoff from Nippert Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+ (paid subscription required) with live audio from the Catamount Sports Network.
