Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina Head Basketball Coach Steve Shurina announced that Kevin Martin, a 6-5, 175-pound guard, has signed a National Letter of Intent.
Martin (Zanesville, Ohio/Zanesville HS) was named second team All-Ohio after averaging 22.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He additionally finished fourth in the Ohio "Mr. Basketball" balloting and was tabbed Eastern Ohio Player of the Year. Martin shot an impressive 41.1 percent (58-of-141) from 3-point range this past season, while draining 81.2 percent (125-of-154) of his foul shots.
"We feel we have gotten an absolute steal in getting Kevin Martin," Shurina said. "Kevin will be able to play three different positions for us. At 6-5, he has the ability to handle the ball, pass effectively and shoot for a high percentage, as well as having the ability to take the ball to the basket."
Martin led Zanesville to a 19-4 record and a Sweet 16 appearance in the state championship. Following his senior season, he played in the annual Ohio-Kentucky and Ohio North-South All-Star games.
