Dan Gibson

Dan Gibson

Dan Gibson has been involved in Western Carolina Catamount Athletics in some capacity since 2004. His most extensive service to the university was with the football program, serving as the Director of Football Operations for nearly a decade between 2009 and 2017.

He also spent two seasons as a defensive coaching staff intern with Catamount football.

Gibson entered into a new role for Western Carolina when he was named Director of Compliance in June 2017, joining the WCU Athletics Senior Staff. Within his new role, Gibson has been instrumental in creating new initiatives within the compliance office including the addition of the ARMS Software in the summer of 2019.

As a member of Senior Staff, Gibson assists with the sport administration of football.

Gibson, who also worked with the Catamount Club in the summer of 2006, has become a fixture around Catamount athletics with his willingness to assist any staff member or coach when asked. He was named the WCU Athletics Staff Member of the Year in 2013.

Having played prep football at Wakefield High School, Gibson spent four years working with the Catamount football team while an undergraduate student at WCU, working his way up from video coordinator to having more of a coaching role. In two seasons as the Defensive Assistant, he joined the coaches in the press box in aiding former Defensive Coordinator Matt Pawlowski on the headsets.

As the Director of Football Operations, Gibson managed all aspects of the team from roster maintenance to travel. He also oversees all video aspects of the football program.

During both the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Gibson provided color commentary during home football broadcasts on the Catamount Sports Network, extending that role to the ESPN booth on video streams in the 2017 and 2018 football seasons.

A native of Wake Forest, N.C., Gibson graduated from Western Carolina with an undergraduate degree in psychology in 2007. He then earned his Master’s Degree in Sport Management from WCU in 2009.

Gibson was married to the former Lynette Mount on May 31, 2014. The couple had their first child, daughter Audrey Shea, on January 3, 2019.
