PRIOR TO WCU: Hyland began his high school career at Lanier High where he was an all-region selection as a sophomore before transferring to Georgia prep powerhouse Grayson High ahead of his junior season. As a junior, he averaged 13.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game, while pacing the squad with a team-best 5.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game averages. Hyland captured All-County honors and was a second-team All-Region 4-7A selection, the second regional honor of his career. A 6-1, 175-lbs., point guard, Hyland helped guide the Rams to the Class 7-A Final Four appearance in 2022-23, his first season with the Grayson program. He returns for a senior year to help bolster an NCAA Division I recruit-heavy Grayson lineup for the 2023-24 season. Scouting reports on Hyland highlight his superior court vision and ability to push the basketball in transition, especially with his ball-handling and dribbling skills. He has a knack for creating offense for his teammates while also possessing the ability to make jump shots at every level. Hyland, who played AAU basketball for The Skill Factory (TSF) EYBL, is listed as a three-star recruit by 247Sports. He was invited to the Super 64 Camp in Atlanta in Aug. 2022. CJ is the son of Sabrina and Javon Hyland, and has a sister, Jada.
