Brian Graves joined the Catamount men’s basketball staff in the spring of 2021 after serving as an assistant coach at N.C. Central for two seasons.
“Brian’s reputation as a recruiter speaks for itself. He truly has an eye for talent and knows how to cultivate genuine relationships. He also does a great job developing that talent in the classroom, on the court and in the community. I know he will bring value to our program and I’m excited to have him on board.” said WCU head coach Justin Gray.
Before arriving in Durham, Graves served as an assistant coach at Longwood for a year and spent two seasons at Hampton after serving as the head coach at Bryant & Stratton College in Buffalo, N.Y., in 2015-16 where he led the Bobcats to a 19-11 record.
Graves played collegiately at Catawba College from 2003-07. He finished his playing career as the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) all-time leader with 600 career assists, while ranking second in league history with 203 in a single season. He also holds the SAC single-game record with 15 assists. A three-time All-SAC honoree, Graves finished his playing career with 1,380 points, 600 assists, and 203 steals.
Catawba is also where Graves began his coaching career, spending 2012-15 at his alma mater after playing professionally as a member of the Grevenbroich Elephants in Germany from 2007-11, the Vermont Frost Heaves in the Premier Basketball League in 2009, and the Tru Hope Trailblazers in the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League in 2010-11.
