Jan Stubbs was the head coach for Western Carolina women's tennis from 1999-2010.

A native of Johnson City Tennessee, Stubbs attended University High School on the campus of East Tennessee State University.She started playing competitive tennis at the age of 12 when her father built a court in the backyard of their home. Her game evolved by playing against both the men's and women's tennis teams at ETSU where her father was a professor. In her senior season, she led her school to a second place finish in the Tennessee State High School championship tournament. Stubbs was also a top ranked junior player not only in the south, where she was ranked in the top 10 in both singles and doubles, but also in the nation where she achieved a career-high ranking of 11 in doubles.

Stubbs attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where she was one of the first women to be given a full scholarship by the university. She played the number one position during her entire career in both singles and doubles at VU. As a freshman, Stubbs compiled a 25-4 record. Also during her freshman year, she set a record of 13 consecutive match victories that was just recently broken. Her tennis career ended at Vanderbilt with an invitation to the NCAA National Singles Championships. This was the first time anyone from Vanderbilt had qualified for the NCAA tournament.

After graduation, Stubbs taught privately at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Duluth, Georgia working with top ranked juniors from the Atlanta area. She is married to Cam Stubbs and they have one son, Cody.
