Jay Joya joined the Catamount Athletics staff as an Assistant Athletic Trainer in June 2023. She came to Cullowhee by way of James Madison University where she worked most recently with the Dukes’ men’s basketball team as a graduate student athletic trainer.
 
At WCU, Joya will work as the primary athletic training contact for the Catamount women’s basketball team and the Catamount cheerleading squad.
 
In addition to her time with the JMU hoops squad, Joya spent the fall of 2022 as a graduate student athletic trainer at East Rockingham High School working with the football, basketball, competitive cheerleading, volleyball, and golf teams in-season.
 
Joya earned her start in athletic training while an undergraduate at Bridgewater College, continuing as a graduate student where she worked with the football, women’s lacrosse, and indoor/outdoor track & field programs from 2021 through 2022.
 
A certified athletic trainer, Joya earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health and exercise science from Bridgewater College in May 2022 and a Master of Science in athletic training in April 2023. She is a member of NATA and is a certified mental health first aider.
