Andrew Green, who spent the 2015 season as a volunteer assistant coach on the sidelines with the Catamount women’s soccer program, returns to Western Carolina to join head coach Chad Miller’s staff.

Green spent the last three seasons in Lexington, Va., at VMI – two years as an assistant coach and one as the associate head coach. During the past three seasons, Green coached Keydet forward Riley Flanagan to a Southern Conference All-Freshman team honor after she posted eight goals, five assists, and 21 total points – all of which ranked among the top three freshman records at VMI. He additionally mentored goalkeeper Jillian Hall, who set the program record for both saves in a single season with 142 in 2021 and career saves with 389.

Green began his collegiate coaching career on the sidelines as a volunteer assistant coach at Western Carolina during the 2015 season, a role he held until June of the following year when he was named an assistant women’s soccer coach at Western Michigan. He spent from July of 2016 to March of 2017 coaching in Kalamazoo, Mich.

A graduate of the University of Olivet in Olivet, Mich., where he earned a bachelor’s degree in social science in 2014, Green was a center and outside back on the men’s soccer team. He helped guide Olivet to back-to-back MIAA conference championship appearances and a 30-12-2 record during his two letter-winning seasons with the Comets. He also served as the head boys’ varsity soccer coach and assistant girls’ varsity soccer coach at Olivet High School from 2013-2015.

Green returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach in 2018 where he earned his first experience coaching the men’s game at the collegiate level. Then in 2020, he was named the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Albion College in Mich., before landing on the coaching staff at VMI in August 2021.

In addition to his various roles with university teams, Green has served as the Director of Goalkeeping, the College Advancement coordinator, and Staff Coach for the Nationals Soccer Club Capital Area based in Lansing, Michigan. He is certified with a USC advanced national diploma, has earned the USSF “C” License, and is registered with a USC GK Level 1 diploma. He achieved a master’s degree in sport coaching and leadership from Michigan State in the spring of 2021.

Green and his wife Allison were married in May 2021 and they welcomed their son, Benjamin, in August 2022.
