Amanda Magruder Murchie was named Assistant Athletics Director for Business Operations beginning in the fall 2021 after serving as the interim business manager for the department during the 2020-21 academic year.
 
A two-time graduate of Western Carolina University, Murchie was the Director of Finance & Administration for Facilities Management, a position she held for 11 years prior to making the move to Athletics. In her previous role, she led, developed, and managed all financial and administrative functions with the Facilities Management unit. Among her duties were oversight of university surplus, motor pool and contract vehicle operations, budget and finance, work control and human resources, as well as information technology in support of over 200 employees.
 
In addition, during her time working on campus, Murchie was selected to participate in WCU's Women's Leadership in Action program in 2017-18. She has also served as a co-facilitator for the WCU Chancellor’s Leadership Academy, a program aimed at the development of current and future leaders within the university’s faculty and staff.
 
Murchie also attended the Harvard Institute for Management and Leadership in Education in 2018, the College Business Management Institute from 2016-18, and took part in the APPA Institute from 2018-20.
 
Prior to her employment at WCU, Murchie worked at a public accounting firm in Asheville, N.C., and started her professional career as an office manager and a paralegal in Sylva.
 
Murchie is a 2004 graduate of Western Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science degree while majoring in Business Administration and Law.  She returned to Western Carolina University and received a Master’s degree in Accountancy in 2010. She is a member of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (NCACPA).
 
Murchie has three children: Joe, Amelia, and Dex.
