Western Carolina University

Coach Danny Williamson is a 1985 graduate of Western Carolina University with a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education. He completed his Master's in Education at WCU in 1986 at which time he began his duties with the Track & Field program.

Williamson is in his 27th year as head men's coach and his 28th year as head of the women's program. During his years at the helm of the Western program he has directed the Catamounts from the lower part of the Southern Conference to a prominent figure at the top of the conference standings year in and year out. Williamson oversees all aspects of the program, but works directly with all of the running and hurdling events.

During his tenure the Catamounts (both men and women) have claimed 21 different Southern Conference Team Championships. Coach Williamson has witnessed over 700 of his student-athletes receive All Southern Conference Awards and over 225 Western Carolina Track and Field/Cross Country Athletes be named an Individual Conference Event Champion. In addition, he has directed 3 Western athletes to NCAA All-American status and has seen over 200 athletes acquire an NCAA Automatic or Provisional Qualifying mark. His Catamounts have also collected 55 Southern MVP awards and numerous athletes of the week awards. His coaching peers have selected him Southern Conference Coach of the Year on 28 different occasions and in 1999, 2004 & 2006 he was selected the NCAA Division I Regional Track and Field Coach of the Year.

Williamson is married to the former Jennifer Bowers of Pembroke Pines, Fla. They are the proud parents of two girls, Colbie and Rylee
