Western Carolina University

David Barbee joined the Western Carolina Athletic Media Relations staff in August 2026 as the Media Relations Assistant Director. He worked with the Catamounts as an undergraduate student from 2021 through his graduation in December 2025 and continued through the 2025-26 athletics season, assisting with media relations, statistics, gameday operations, and event coverage across multiple sports.
 
During his time with Western Carolina Athletics, Barbee has assisted with in-game operations for women’s soccer, baseball, and softball, including scoreboard operations, while also working with the WCU official statistics crew for football and men’s and women’s basketball. He has also supported media coordination, statistics tracking, and game-day communications.
 
Barbee gained additional experience through an internship with Asheville City Soccer Club, where he worked in ticketing, customer service, media relations, and gameday operations.
 
While an undergraduate at Western Carolina, Barbee also served as Athletics Chair for the university’s Pi Kappa Alpha chapter, where he helped coordinate athletic activities and events for the chapter.
 
Barbee graduated from Western Carolina University in December 2025, earning his bachelor’s degree in sport management. He is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Sport Management at WCU while serving as a graduate assistant with Catamount Athletics. His professional interests include athletic administration, media relations, communications, and gameday operations.
