Haley Mitchell joined the Western Carolina Athletics staff as the Assistant Director for Academic Support in June 2022. During the summer of 2023, she assumed the Senior Athletics Academic Advisor within WCU's Academic Support.

A former NCAA Division I student-athlete, Mitchell came to Cullowhee from her alma mater, Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill., where she most recently served as Student-Athlete Academic Services Assistant. Her duties included working in the Panther PASS Academic Center, while also assisting incoming student-athletes with the transition to college and during freshman orientation.

Her professional experience in intercollegiate athletics also includes working as an Athletic Compliance Assistant at EIU, as she worked one-on-one with the Senior Woman Administrator and Director of Compliance. Mitchell also was an intern within EIU’s Career Services, working with students on resume building and planning custom workshops with athletic teams on campus.

Originally from San Gabriel, Calif., Mitchell graduated Magna Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Business Administration at Eastern Illinois University where she was also a five-year letter-winner on the Panther softball team. During her playing career, Mitchell earned multiple All-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) and regional honors, while also receiving the EIU Athletic Director Award, EIU Presidential Award, and a nomination for the 2021 NCAA Women of Year. As an EIU student-athlete, Mitchell also participated in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and was a member of the Chi Alpha Sigma Honors Society as an undergraduate.

Mitchell completed her Master of Science in Sports Administration from Eastern Illinois in May 2022, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
