Malik Chevry - HEAD - 2026

Malik Chevry

Malik Chevry joined the Catamount football coaching staff in the spring of 2026, coaching the cornerbacks in WCU’s defensive secondary.

Chevry came to Cullowhee from Anderson University in Anderson, S.C., after spending four seasons with the Trojans football team under head coach Bobby Lamb. After joining the staff as a defensive assistant coach in 2022, he served as the defensive backs coach and the program’s recruiting coordinator in 2023. Chevry was ultimately promoted to defensive pass game coordinator at Anderson.

Under Chevry’s tutelage, Anderson improved from 10th in 2024 to second in 2025 in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) in pass defense. The Trojans ranked 15th nationally in 2025, limiting foes to 170 passing yards per game on just 56% completions.

His previous collegiate coaching experience includes time as the cornerbacks coach and the film coordinator at Erskine College in Due West, S.C. He also oversaw the program’s social media account. With the Flying Fleet, he mentored corner true freshman Jaavan Mack, who was fifth on the team in solo tackles despite playing in just nine games.

Chevry earned his start at the high school level, coaching at Victory Christian Academy in Lakeland, Fla., helping guide the Storm to a Region 2 Championship, and at Blue Ridge High in Greer, S.C., as the outside linebackers coach.

Originally from Powder Springs, Ga., where he was a three-time region champion in high school, Chevry played collegiately at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla., where he was part of two conference championship teams. He was named to the Academic All-Sun Conference team and earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. He is a 2019 graduate of SEU with a degree in sport management, with a concentration in physical education and coaching.

Malik and his wife, Elizabeth, were married in July 2019. The couple has two children.
