Sophia Johnston joined the Catamount Athletics external relations staff in June 2026 as the Director of Creative Media. She is responsible for producing video and photo content for all 16 of Western Carolina’s intercollegiate sports and coordinates WCU’s social media.
Johnston came to Cullowhee after recently graduating from Central Michigan University where she was a lead video creative for the Chippewas.
During her time at CMU she helped produce over 150 videos annually for CMU athletics, including in-game highlights, recaps and various social media content. She also helped craft and deliver various video projects across all 17 sports at Central Michigan University that was shared on the CMU social platforms.
She also spent the 2025 summer working as a social media coordinator for the Great Lake Loons, where she created and executed engaging social content that highlighted players, game days and the overall fan experiences.
Johnston is a 2026 graduate of Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich., earning her bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting and cinematic arts with a minor in multimedia design.
