Steven Honbarger came to Cullowhee during the summer of 2005 and served as the trainer for Catamount women's basketball before taking over operation of the Sports Medicine Department during the summer of 2006. He is currently the primary athletic training contact for the Catamount football team.
Honbarger is a licensed athletic trainer (LAT) and also holds certification in athletic training (ATC). In addition to his athletic training accreditations, he is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS).
Honbarger earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Appalachian State in Boone, N.C. He graduated with his Bachelor's of Science in Athletic Training in 2001, earning his Master's in Exercise Science in 2004. While an undergrad, he worked as an intern in the ASU athletic training room, a position he expanded to a graduate assistantship for two years while in graduate school.
Upon his graduation, Honbarger continued his service in the Mountaineer athletic training room, working as an Intern/Assistant Athletic Trainer for a year before being hired at WCU as an Assistant Athletic Trainer.
Steven is originally from China Grove, N.C. He was married to the former Elizabeth McLeod - an administrative support associate within WCU's Office of Alumni Engagement - during the summer of 2015.
