DURHAM, N.C. - Western Carolina women's basketball fell to No. 12 Duke 84-47 Tuesday at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Duke raced out to a 14-5 lead and closed the first quarter on an 11-3 run to lead 25-11 after one and 40-27 at intermission. Western Carolina did win the second period outscoring the Blue Devils 16-15.
Western Carolina sliced the Duke lead to 44-32 with 7:12 left in the third period. The Catamounts couldn't take advantage of a nearly three minute scoring drought by Duke, however, only posting three points in that span.
After the Duke scoring drought in the middle of the third period the Blue Devils closed out the third period on an 18-5 run to pull away. Duke outscored the Catamounts 22-10 in both the third and fourth periods.
The Catamounts were led by sophomore guard Ace Easter with 13 points. Azura Stevens scored 21 points with 10 rebounds to pace Duke. Turning Point Duke shot 58.5 percent from the field and outscored Western Carolina 22-10 in both the third and fourth periods.
Individual Leaders
- Easter led Western Carolina with 13 points.
- Freshman Raziyah Farringlon just missed scoring in double figures with nine.
- Sophomore forward Sherae Bonner ripped down a team-high six rebounds.
- Azura Stevens led Duke with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
