CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's soccer opens Southern Conference play at 7 p.m. Friday at ETSU.  

AN INSIDE LOOK AT THE CATAMOUNTS:

• The Catamounts had their three-match winning streak snapped with a 3-1 loss at North Florida Sept. 22.
• The 6-3 record to open the 2019 season is the best start for a Catamount program since the 2007 squad also opened that season with a 6-3 record.  
• Ten different Western Carolina players have scored a goal this season.
• Junior midfielder Regan Ward leads the Catamounts with four goals. Senior Julia Winter and freshman Payton Creed each have two.
• Freshman goalkeeper Melody Mezzina has allowed four goals over the last 450 minutes with three of those goals coming against North Florida. She has three shutouts, which leads the conference, collected 19 saves and has a record of 4-2.
• Western Carolina and ETSU meet for the 17^th time on Friday. The Catamounts and Buccaneers are tied in their meetings at 7-7-2. In 2018, ETSU escaped with a 1-0 victory in Cullowhee. Western Carolina's last win over the Bucs came in Johnson City, Tenn. on Oct. 22, 2017, with WCU earning a 2-1 victory. All-time, WCU is 3-4-1 at ETSU.

AN INSIDE LOOK AT ETSU:

• ETSU freshmen have scored seven of the Bucs 13 goals on the year and five of ETSU's eight assists.
• Five different Buccaneers have scored two goals on the year.
• ETSU has won two of its last five matches halting a two-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Hampton on Sept. 18.
• Western Carolina and ETSU have faced three common opponents this season in UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb and Radford. The Buccaneers went 0-2-1 against the three foes while the Catamounts 3-0 against them.
