Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina women's volleyball lost a disappointing match 2-3 to Southern Conference opponent East Tennessee State Friday night in the Ramsey Center.
Western Carolina took control of the second game, after falling 8-15 in the first, by jumping out with the lead and finishing off the Lady Bucs 15-2. In a close third game ETSU triumphed over Western despite the fact that Western recorded 20 kills as a team.
Junior Christy Attebery led the Cats offensively to roll past the Bucs in game four 15-3. The rally scoring fifth match was more of a challenge for WCU as they lost a hard fought 13-15.
Attebery recorded 25 kills on the night and 19 digs. She was joined in double-doubles by freshmen Pamela Stein and Sara Komosinski with 15 kills, 19 digs and 13 kills, 11 digs respectively. Junior setter Bri Milan-Williams also joined her teammates by recording 49 assists and 10 digs.
ETSU's Amber Ciskowski led her team with 17 kills and 18 digs while seniors Courtney Sussillo and Jena Policastro added 13 and 10 kills respectively.
Western Carolina falls to 8-11 overall and 6-4 in league play while ETSU improves to 11-6 and 8-3. The Lady Cats will next host conference rival Appalachian State, Saturday, October 14 at 7:00 pm. The match is also parents night.
