Three players finished in double figures for kills to help Western Carolina post a 3-1 victory over UNCG in Southern Conference volleyball action this afternoon in Greensboro.

The Lady Catamounts won by scores of 5-15, 15-5, 15-10, and 15-7 to send the Spartans to their third straight conference loss.

UNCG took an early 7-2 lead in the first game, and after two straight Western Carolina points, the Spartans scored eight of the last nine points of the game for a 15-5 victory.

The match completely turned around in the second game, as the Lady Cats scored the first 11 points of the game. UNCG cut the lead to eight at 11-3, but WCU would claim a 15-5 win.

UNCG held a 5-0 lead in the third game, and led 9-6 before Western Carolina rallied with seven straight points for a 13-9 lead, on its way to a 15-10 win. The Lady Cats scored nine of the last ten points in game three.

UNCG again held an early lead in the fourth game at 6-3, until seven consecutive Western Carolina points put the Lady Cats up 10-6. UNCG added a point to cut the lead to 10-7, before the Lady Cats ran off the last five points of the match to win 15-7.

Western Carolina's Christy Attebery finished with 14 kills and 15 digs, Sara Komosinski added 12 kills and 12 digs, and Ashley Minton registered 11 kills, 11 digs, and a .421 hitting percentage. Bri Milan-Williams added 42 assists and 13 digs for the Lady Cats.

Senior Becky Moore turned in a solid game both offensively and defensively, with a game-high 16 kills to go along with 15 digs. She also finished with a .316 hitting percentage. Freshman Jamie Hedin tallied eight kills and 15 digs, senior Cheryl Foster recorded six kills and 13 digs, and junior Robyn Jameson added 10 digs and 40 assists.

The Lady Cats improve to 10-12 and 8-5 in the SoCon, while the Spartans fall to 6-16 on the year, and 4-8 in the conference. Western next travels to Davidson, Sunday, October 22 for a 1:00 pm match.
